Moreover, this is largely a self-sustaining wild fishery of excellent quality and can be prolific in the right conditions.
Many experienced Anglers make a pilgrimage to Orkney to enjoy this fishery, year after year, but to the first time visitor whether novice or experienced angler, the use of an experienced local guide should be considered.
From May onwards, the best results are to be obtained from a boat, and boating on these wild lochs can be daunting, and sometimes even dangerous. For the holiday angler, who may have limited time at his disposal, and guide can also vastly enhance his or her chances of having a memorable experience.
I provide a full Guiding service from my own boats on the main Orkney mainland lochs, including tuition and tackle hire where required.
