Aosdàna is a beautiful gallery and working studio selling traditional Iona jewellery, contemporary Scottish designer jewellery, and a selection of artists’ books, prints and cards.
Over the centuries, the Isle of Iona has inspired poets, musicians, craftsmen and women, writers, artists and theologians. Its landscape speaks of angelic visions and ancient burial grounds, a hermitage of the sea and a place of reflection and revival.
At Aosdàna we continue to be inspired by our island home and by the work of Iona jewellery designers Alex and Euphemia Ritchie and Iain MacCormick, who in their own way reflected the history and culture of Iona through their craft. Aosdàna’s story begins in 1996 when Iain gifted his collection of old Iona patterns and his knowledge of their complex forms to his young relative, Mhairi Killin. Mhairi established Aosdàna in 2003, continuing a century old tradition on Iona of working with these unique designs.
Whilst acknowledging this legacy, at Aosdàna we also seek to reflect the present cultural and physical landscape of Iona through our contemporary collections. Here you will find a trace of the past echoing through our modern designs, created using a combination of traditional bench skills and new technology.
The gallery is open daily 10am - 5pm from Easter through until the end of October.
