The present mill was built in 1873 and little has changed, while remains of older mills sit next to the current working mill. Like most northern mills of the period, a kiln for drying the grain is integral to the building. Unusually though, the grain ground is bere, an ancient form of barley. Grinding is done during the winter and during the summer the mill is open to the public, with the running of the machinery demonstrated by the miller.
