explore your creativity : art classes next to the beach : inspired by ocean, wildlife & landscape : on the stunningly beautiful Island of Hoy, Orkney
Exhibition gallery & art classes next to the beach
During your holiday here, why not look at some lovely artwork or join an art class right next to the beach? Classes take inspiration from Orkney natural heritage - puffins, shells, butterflies, dragonflies, underwater sealife, birds & flowers.
These art workshops are aimed at complete beginners to art, so don't worry if you've not painted before. You will learn the basic skills needed to get started & have fun. The art room is right next to the beach on the waterfront with wonderful light & stunning sea views. The sheltered bay is home to seals, eider ducks, geese & arctic terns. You can look over towards Scapa Flow & gaze out at the view while enjoying your tea & cake!
What you'll learn
In a small group of 4 participants you'll get the chance to experiment with a variety of tools & media with expert guidance from your tutor. There will be an emphasis on dispelling fear & gaining confidence & overcoming any inhibitions you may have about being creative!
Summer Drawing & Painting Class
Summer art classes inspired by Shoreline Birds in the exhibition of paintings by Adele Pound.
Series of 6 art classes based on Adele Pound’s exhibition of paintings of Shoreline Birds. You can book each class separately or attend all six.
In each class you will focus on producing sketches & paintings based on these beautiful birds. This is an opportunity to experiment & play with tools & materials& to explore mixed media & watercolour paint.
It's ideal for beginners, so don't worry if you're new to it all, but if you have experience, then this will inspire you to produce some lovely work. There's also time to take in the incredible view from the gallery in which you will be working, right next to the beach overlooking chatty oystercatchers & eider ducks in a quiet sheltered bay.
The sessions run from 11 till 3, so please bring something for a working lunch which we will take in the gallery overlooking the bay. If you'd like to take a short scenic walk while you're here, then the beach is just outside & there is an easy coastal walk along the lane towards the lighthouse at Cantick Head.
All tools & materials are provided. Tea, coffee & smiles are available all day!
