Beach Wheelchairs

Portobello Beach Wheelchairs is located in Edinburgh's popular seaside suburb. Easily reached by bus from Princes Street, the beachfront is a favourite spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy an ice cream or bite to eat before relaxing on the sand. We want people to enjoy this special beach with family and friends, have new experiences, make long lasting memories or be taken back to their childhood just by the sound of the waves and the smell of salt on the air.

Beach Wheelchairs Portobello hire free beach wheelchairs from our storage container that has been decorated with designs created by the P4’s at Towerbank Primary School located beside the carpark for Edinburgh Leisure Tumbles Gymnastics & Softplay Centre.

We have a wide variety of options for wheelchair users, from manual beach wheelchairs which will let you dip your feet in the water to the robust X8 for those looking to explore the length of the beach. For younger children, our versatile and comfortable Hippocampe model allows for access to water. Our manual hoist will allow those who bring a sling to easily transfer between wheelchairs. Our trained volunteers will be able to assist in raising and lowering the hoist.
