CALLANISH ALPACAS (www.facebook.com/callanishalpacas) is a family run visitor centre located near to the world famous Callanish Stones.
We offer drop-in visits and informal tours during opening hours; no booking is required. We can also organise pre-arranged appointments out of hours when possible.
We have 8 adult female alpacas (Caskie, Bella, Carla, Petra, Martina, Pandora, Osprey and Petula), 3 young alpacas (Alice, Aurelia and Amy) and Domino who was born in June 2022. Several of the adult females are due to have cria in May/June 2023.
Humpty, Dumpty and Wallace are ridiculously tame Kunekune pigs. They were initially eyed with suspicion by the alpacas and our 8 rare breed four-horned Hebridean sheep (Dafydd, Dai, Delilah, Dwt, Venetia, Dewi, Raleigh and their impressive father Leo). We can’t of course fail to mention Dougal "the tour guide" sheep; who thinks that he’s anything other than a sheep!
We also have many breeds of unusual looking chickens (Silkies, Pekins, Pilkies, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, bantam Partridge Wyandottes, a Barnevelder, Polish Crested, bantam Modern Game, Rosecombs, bantam Scot’s Greys, Frizzles, Sizzles, a lemon millefleur booted bantam Sablepoot and Seramas…the world’s smallest breed of chicken!), peafowl and ducks of various comical and striking breeds (Indian Runner ducks, Call ducks, Mandarin ducks, Carolina ducks, Muscovy ducks, Khaki Campbell crosses and rescued wild ducks including rare white mallards). All of our animals have names and unique personalities!
Please note that the whereabouts of the animals is weather-dependent.
There is no charge but a voluntary donation towards the cost of keeping the alpacas and other animals is welcomed.
There is a gift shop selling alpaca merchandise, hot/cold drinks and snacks on site.
We are located at 20 Callanish on the A858 100 yards past the main Callanish Stones turn-off coming from the Stornoway direction.
Hope to see you soon!
