Ceòlas has grown from a week long music and dance school established in 1996 to become one of the Outer Hebrides’ leading Gaelic culture, heritage and arts organisations. The organisation focuses on performance and education that celebrates and promotes local Gaelic culture and heritage as well as the strong cultural links of the Gàidhealtachd diaspora.
Ceòlas’ activities fall into six main categories: music schools, community learning, Gaelic language learning, live-arts events, culture and heritage symposia and international research projects.
The annual Summer School remains the flagship event, starting the first Sunday of July annually. The Summer School supports learning through integration and immersion with South Uist’s unique local community, with students improving their skills as they experience and engage with a contemporary Gaelic culture rooted in rich tradition and heritage. Ceòlas is also expanding into the winter season with schools.
