Based in Stornoway on the beautiful Isle of Lewis, but also operating cruises from Mallaig and Ullapool, Hebridean Adventures offer whale, dolphin and wildlife watching cruises and day trips for all, from keen wildlife enthusiasts to family groups. You can even charter our whole boat just for yourselves if you have a group of family or friends, or need a mothership-style operation for surveying, filming or any other reason. Or perhaps you are a club with a special interest like birdwatching, hillwalking or beach cleaning - we can help! Please get in touch by phone or email to enquire.
As experts in marine and land-based ecology, Hebridean Adventures have created a selection of short cruises lasting from 2 to 6 nights, perfect for a quick getaway, or a second or main holiday. Stornoway is very accessible by ferry from Ullapool (or by plane) too so no need to bring your car - just come as a foot passenger and walk just 5-10 minutes to our boat in Stornoway from the terminal. Mallaig has great road and rail access being at the end of the Road to the Isles and also the West Highland railway line, while Ullapool is just a short and scenic 1.5 hour drive or coach ride from Inverness.
We are the only wildlife watching, live-aboard vessel based in Stornoway and the waters of the North Minch, a recognised European hotspot for cetaceans and home in season to porpoises, whales, dolphins, seals, eagles and seabirds galore (incl. puffins, shags, razorbills, guillemots, gannets, kittiwakes and more.)
We are committed to sustainable and responsible wildlife encounters and are an accredited Wildlife Safe (WiSE) operator.
All our whale and dolphin sightings are collected and submitted to cetacean conservation organisations such as the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust (HWDT) where we are regularly one of the top 3 observers each season logging hundreds of sightings.
In addition we have also partnered with local experts to offer activity cruises which still sail the same wildlife rich waters, but offer the chance to experience sea kayaking, hiking remote areas, snorkelling pristine waters or improving your photographic skills. We are also planning further cruises catering for artists, wild swimmers and pelagic birdwatching. Please let us know if you are interested and we will send more details.
Come the spring and summer holidays we also offer day boat trips, often to the Shiant isles. A great chance to experience the wildlife still and with a great chance of seeing cetaceans, eagles and puffins too. Maybe even a basking shark in the late summer if you are very lucky!
If you prefer to keep your feet on solid ground then we can also offer a land tour of the Isle of Lewis by 4WD minibus. We know this area very well and can still offer the chance to maybe spot whales and dolphins as part of your tour, as well as eagles and many other species.
