Discover the life and times of John Paul Jones, 'The Father of the American Navy' at the traditional cottage where he was born in 1747.
Now a museum, you can take the tour around the cottage, which is still furnished in the style of the 1700s. An audio visual programme is presented in the beautifully reconstructed cabin of his ship Bonhomme Richard, in which he defeated HMS Serapis off Flamborough Head, Yorkshire in 1779.
The visitor centre also boasts an impressive interpretive exhibition on his life, a small shop and pretty grounds. Why not make the most of the picnic area (refreshments are available and picnic tables too), where you can soak up stunning views of the Solway and the Lake District? Find out more here and here.
