Medieval origins meet Victorian style at Kellie Castle. Whether your interest lies in nature, gardens, arts & crafts, fine interiors, ornate plasterwork or furniture, you’ll find much to inspire you here. Marvel at the castle’s fairytale stone towers, magnificent rooms and beautiful garden.
Dating back to the 14th century, the castle was saved from ruin in the late 19th century by famous artistic and architect family, the Lorimers. Crow-stepped gables and fairytale stone towers form the outer frame, while indoors elaborate plaster ceilings and painted panelling lie alongside fine furniture designed by Sir Robert Lorimer.
Breathe in the heady scents in the Arts & Crafts garden, filled with the fragrance of old roses; admire the majestic library ceiling – one of the oldest ornamental plaster ceilings in Scotland; discover the long-concealed mural by Phoebe Anna Traquair; and visit the stables, where there is an exhibition on sculptor Hew Lorimer’s life and see his sculpture studio.
Enjoy delicious fresh produce from the kitchen garden in the tearoom, and enjoy a walk in the beautiful walled garden, or further afield round the picturesque estate.
