An art and craft gallery in the Outer Hebrides on a working croft and glampsite, with an exhibition of landscape paintings, photography and handmade paper crafts by artists and crofters Derek Scanlan and Elsie Mitchell, plus Digital Illustrations by Lorna Scanlan and Furniture Design by Campbell Scanlan.
Mangurstadh Gallery in Uig, Isle of Lewis is a family run business. The gallery exhibits pastel and oil paintings by Derek Scanlan together with photography and handmade paper crafts made from plants grown on the artists' croft by Elsie Mitchell. Both artists take inspiration from the crofting township and beautiful coastal landscape which surround the studio gallery. Derek Scanlan (a graduate of Falmouth School of Art) creates expressive pastel drawings and oil paintings which capture the light and changing weather systems which sweep across the land from the ocean. Elsie Mitchell (a graduate of Glasgow School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art) explores the biodiversity of flora and fauna and the agricultural practices, both ancient and contemporary that have shaped and formed the Outer Hebrides. The artists' daughter Lorna Scanlan (Masters in Architecture and Urban Planning) creates digital illustrations. Campbell Scanlan (BSc in Product Design), the artists' son, is a designer/ cabinet maker specialising in contemporary kitchens and interiors. He offers a design, manufacturing and installation service from his workshop in Uig, Isle of Lewis. The artists and designers work can be viewed online at www.mangurstadhgallery.com and at www.campbellscanlan.co.uk.
