About us
The Mull Aquarium is part of the Tobermory Harbour Association, a not-for-profit community enterprise. All profits are re-invested into the harbour facilities to benefit both the local community and our visitors. The Aquarium provides an exciting, informative and interactive experience for both adults and children, demonstrating the life of Tobermory community's working harbour and local waters.
What's here
Our marine tanks are stocked with an array of sea creatures from Tobermory Bay and the waters surrounding Mull. We do not keep the sea creatures we find; after just 4 weeks, we return them to the sea and then restock the aquarium with new and different animals. This is what we call 'borrowing from the sea'.
The huge variety of interactive displays also demonstrate the activities and life in, on and around Tobermory Bay and the Sound of Mull.
We show a variety of films throughout the day in our 20 seated digital cinema room. The films range from wildlife documentaries to RNLI safety and many other films of local and national interest. See our website for special film screenings thought the season.
Have you ever wanted to hold a crab or touch a starfish?
Our touch pool area gives children (and any willing adults too of course) the chance to have a hands on experience. We don't expect the creatures to communicate for themselves so knowledgeable staff members are always available to discuss ideas and answer questions.
We like to involve our visitors in all aspects of our day to day operations, so you may be invited to feed or even help release our creatures back into the ocean.
Events
Throughout the summer we run a number of events including harbour tours, family craft activities, meet the experts talks and our Marine Week celebration. Please see our website for full details.
