Designed by McKenzie Ross this renowned Championship course is Dumfries & Galloway’s flagship links course, enjoying an idyllic location with panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Lake District and the Galloway Hills to the west as you play.
This is a true Championship Links course, measuring 6728 yards from the white (Championship) tees. The terrain is level allowing for easy walking with no hills to climb, and its brilliant design engenders a feeling of remoteness and solitude, where you are seldom aware of others on the course, thus providing a real escape from the stresses of daily life.
Situated on a stunning stretch of the Solway Firth, Southerness has had the honour of staging many leading tournaments including the Scottish Amateur Championship, the Scottish Ladies' Championship and the British Ladies' Championship. The course has featured in Golf Monthly's list of top 100 courses in Britain and Ireland each year since 1990, while Golf World ranked Southerness as the sixth best value course in Britain and Ireland
For the low and experienced mid-handicapper golfer, Southerness is a must play.
The 12th hole is widely regarded as the signature hole, with a left to right dog leg and fairway bunkers right and left, hitting out towards the Solway. The forward view on playing the hole is the shimmering sea and a large sandy bay opens out to the right as you progress towards the green. A truly memorable hole.
Test yourself at Powfoot and Dumfries and County as part of the ‘Play the Best’ group, or choose pleasure over challenge at nearby Colvend.
