The Bee School is a not-for-profit organisation focused on honey bees, education, wellbeing and the environment. Based in Loch Lomond, we’re a small family run business and have been keen beekeepers for over 6 years. Our approach has a strong emphasis on the needs of the young beekeeper and to make traditional beekeeping more accessible.
Our afternoon Bee Safari is the perfect introduction to the world of bees and beekeeping. The safari is for anyone who is curious about starting their own apiary and want to see if it’s for them, inquisitive bee lovers who want to learn more or those who just want to try something new! The safari consists of a short talk about honey bees covering the basics, a honey tasting sampling types of honey from different nectar sources, a hive inspection for a peek inside a live honey bee hive and then finishing with coffee, homemade cake and answering any further questions.
We also offer a Weekend Bee School course covering all the basics of starting out as a beekeeper, including information about pollination and important pollinators, all about honey bees and what goes on in a colony, information about hives and equipment, honey bee behaviour and swarming, good housekeeping and diseases, honey and different bee products and joining your local association. The weekend includes two practical sessions conducting a hive inspection led by experienced beekeepers as well as a full lunch, snacks and refreshments.
We encourage all ages and stages to come along, and can arrange special requirements for different groups.
