BOTHY BEGINNINGS
Back in 2013, Gin Bothy founder, Kim Cameron, was busy making traditional home-made jams using locally-sourced fruits and berries and so her Jam Bothy business near Kirriemuir grew. It was also producing ever-larger volumes of fruit juices left over from the jam-making process. Rather than have it go to waste, Kim looked for a way to make good use of this resource. Her mum suggested mixing the juices with gin. Some mother’s wisdom led to new opportunities in the world of Mother’s Ruin, and the Jam Bothy became the Gin Bothy!
Today, the Gin Bothy produces a range of full-strength spirits, fruit liqueurs, fusions and spiced rum. All of which are available to sample and purchase in our retail shops; The Bothy Larder and The Bothy Barn and experience in one of our Tasting Rooms at THE GIN BOTHY EXPERIENCE in Glamis.

OUR GIN
We source as many of our ingredients as possible from local sources, such as fruits from local farms, honey from Perthshire, scots pine from the Scottish Highlands, hibiscus rose from near the Angus coast, and seasonal additions such as gorse flower, rosemary, thyme, and heather.
We have also created interesting fusion gins, including our Gingerbread liqueur that combines Kirriemuir’s famous gingerbread and its equally famous gin!
All our products are presented in our distinctive square bottle – strong and solid, like the bothy itself. They are poured, sealed and labelled – all by hand – ready for you to enjoy.
WHAT IS A BOTHY?
The bothy: an old stone building with an unremarkable appearance but a truly unique place in the story of Scotland's great outdoors. Bothies were traditionally used as a home or shelter for estate workers or farmhands, and they have proudly stood as part of our rural landscape for over 300 years.
They are also a simple place of refuge for walkers and adventurers when the clouds gather, darkness sets in or weary limbs demand a rest. They are more than places of sanctuary; they are an evocative reminder of Scotland’s rural heritage and traditions.
So please come to our bothy and rest your weary limbs while enjoying the best of Scottish hospitality!
