The Glad Cafe operates as both a cafe and a venue in the Shawlands area of the southside of Glasgow. It aims to have something to offer people of any age or background in this diverse and vibrant local community. The cafe has become known for our excellent breakfast menu, high quality coffee and freshly prepared seasonal food which is created by our chefs and served until 7pm each day. In the evening we serve soup and a variety of snacks from the cafe servery. There is also a delicious range of home baking – including a good gluten free assortment from Wild Flours Bakery.
We are also proud of our growing selection of great tasting craft beers, so please come in and ask our staff what is currently on offer.
Our well equipped venue provides a welcome space in the southside for showcasing up and coming local musicians as well as internationally known acts. We feature indie, electronic, experimental, world and traditional musicians. The space has become known for its great acoustic and the quality of the programme which also includes film, drama, storytelling and philosophical talks. The exhibition space in the cafe also hosts a changing feast of visual delight, and this combined with the six monthly zine, the Glad Rag, adds to our on-going representation of southside creativity!
