At The Silly Sheep we produce knitting wools, tweed and spinning & felting fibres in a range of natural colours & also in a range of hand dyed small batch colours. We used the fleeces from our flock of Shetland sheep and also buy some fleeces from other crofters to enhance the range & the volume needed for spinning. We sell our tweed as both ready made products for you to purchase & also as fabric from the roll if you would like to make something yourself. Our wool is available in various yarn weights, in standard size balls & skeins & also on the cone. We stock knitting needles & crochet hooks, books & locally made wool wash & crafts fromother local makers.
Our workshop is the original croft house which was renovated, creating a light, airy workspace & shop. We are based on the edge of the village of Walls and are surrounded by beautiful croft land. As well as our wools etc, we offer hot & cold takeaway drinks and have an Honesty cake shed which has homemade cakes & biscuits, jams & our eggs. All baking is gluten free & I aim to have some dairy free most of the time as well.
Our croft is home to our sheep, ponies, our hens & ducks, a wide range of wading & other wild birds, at least 1 otter and numerous wild flowers.
We are also lucky enough to have numerous archaeological remains dotted around the croft. You are welcome to walk the croft, however please check with us first as at certain times of year we dont like the sheep to be disturbed, we also have ground nesting birds in the spring.
We are located on the main road into Walls village, if you are travelling by road we have parking, if you are travelling by bus we are on the number 9 bus route, as the driver to drop you at "The Punds" , they will stop at the end of our drive, you can also catch the bus back to Lerwick from the end of the drive or if you want to explore the village you can walk down to the village and catch the bus just across the road from the shop.
