Some time ago, the old farmstead at Torabhaig was identified as the perfect location for a small, traditional distillery, with all the factors needed to make good, robust island whisky. We were also fortunate to start with a handsome, rugged building which just needed some love and attention.
Our 19th century steading has now been fully restored to hold gleaming copper stills and traditional wooden washbacks and should allow us to produce whisky here for the next two hundred years.
Torabhaig has been a fully operational Single Malt Scotch Whisky distillery since January 2017.
The best way to really get to know us is a guided tour of the distillery. Our tour will take you behind the scenes into the heart of the production area and give you a unique insight into life in a working Hebridean Island distillery. As well as sharing a wealth of local knowledge and lore about a site rich in history, our guides will lead you to experience all stages of the whisky making process from grain to spirit, before concluding with a tutored whisky tasting.
Torabhaig is a working distillery so unfortunately there is no admission to the production area for children aged 12 and under, however, young people aged between 13 and 17 will be admitted free of charge if they are accompanied by one or more paying adults.
To allow us to ensure your comfort, enjoyment and safety within a busy working environment, all tours are limited to a maximum of 8 people. We always advise that you book your tour before arrival, either online or by contacting us directly.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday 11am to 3pm. Please check the booking portal on our website to find out if we are currently running tours as this is dependent on current Covid-19 guidelines. The Visitor Centre offers tours of the distillery, a café and shop, combining in a warm, welcoming experience for those visiting the beautiful Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye.
A regular tour of the distillery lasts around 45 minutes and cost £10 per person with free admission for those under the age of 18. We do not admit children aged 12 and under to the production area.
The maximum number of people on each tour will be 8.
