Some time ago, the old farmstead at Torabhaig was identified as the perfect location for a small, traditional distillery, with all the factors needed to make good, robust island whisky. We were also fortunate to start with a handsome, rugged building which just needed some love and attention.
Our 19th century steading has now been fully restored to hold gleaming copper stills and traditional wooden washbacks and should allow us to produce whisky here for the next two hundred years.
Torabhaig has been a fully operational Single Malt Scotch Whisky distillery since January 2017, the first to be built on Skye in 190 years and only the second legal malt whisky distillery ever to operate on the island.
Our first expression of Torabhaig Single Malt launched in February 2021 under the label '2017 - The Legacy Series'. By August 2021 we had launched our second expression of the Legacy Series - Allt Gleann. It is this expression which you will taste on our tours and that we have for sale in our Whisky Shop.

Our Regular Tour will take you behind the scenes into the heart of the production area and give you a unique insight into life in a working Hebridean Island distillery. As well as sharing a wealth of local knowledge and lore about a site rich in history, our guides will lead you to experience all stages of the whisky making process from grain to spirit, before concluding with a tutored whisky tasting.
We have newly launched for 2023, our Whisky and Chocolate Pairing Tour. This is a collaboration between Torabhaig Distillery and local chocolatier, Chocolates of Glenshiel. On this tour, you will experience the Regular Tour until you come to our tasting room where we will introduce you to three different expressions from our Mossburn family, including Torabhaig Allt Gleann. Each expression will be paired with a chocolate from a selection, handcrafted for us by Chocolates of Glenshiel. We believe we have come up with three exquisite pairings and now invite you to come along and find out for yourself.
Torabhaig is a working distillery therefore, there is no admission to the production area for children aged 12 and under, however, young people aged between 13 and 17 will be admitted free of charge if they are accompanied by one or more paying adults.
To allow us to ensure your comfort, enjoyment and safety within a busy working environment, all tours are limited to a maximum of 8 people. We always advise that you book your tour on-line as far in advance as you can.
Normal opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am - 5pm. Saturday and Sunday 10am - 3pm. Please click through to our website to check if there are any changes to our opening times on the day you are visiting. The Visitor Centre offers tours of the distillery, a café and shop, combining in a warm, welcoming experience for those visiting the beautiful Sleat peninsula on the Isle of Skye.
A Regular Tour of the distillery lasts around 45 minutes and costs £12 per person with free admission for those under the age of 18. We do not admit children aged 12 and under to the production area.
