Julie is a passionate educator about the benefits wool can bring to health & well being through arts, crafts & textiles homewares. Working with the natural characteristics of each breed of wool to create a range of warming wool gifts from wall art to ponchos & bed pillows. As well as a rural shopping experience, Julie provides wool based craft workshops for wet felting, dry needle felting and tapestry weaving are available throughout the year both on and off farm. This gives customers the opportunity to learn craft skills, make an item to take home and simple enjoy some crafting time and learn about the sheep on the farm.
Julie explains the business name Uan is gaelic for “little lamb”. It was in the story book we were reading to our children when we started our mission to improve our asthmatic sons sleep. Little did we realise then in 2012 that our humble flock of sheep held the answer. These kindly creatures grow wool that has the most amazing properties. So wool is not just wool -there are lots of different types of wool with different characteristics, just like different fine wines, or cheeses. But our homegrown wool is fantastic for helping sleep.
