Wilderness Scotland - Mountain Bike Holidays
Wilderness Scotland is an award-winning adventure travel and ecotourism company specialising in active holidays in the Highlands and Islands.
Our mountain biking holidays in Scotland are designed to take riders away from the purpose built centres to explore Scotland's wonderful, natural, backcountry trails
Where Do Our Trips Start From? Most of our guided group departures leave and return to railway stations as we encourage our clients to book rail travel where possible and travel in a sustainable way.
Our GuidesThe trips are led by guides who hold the Mountain Bike Leader qualification and who know the backcountry trails better than anyone. These trips enjoy accommodation in guest houses and small hotels, with baggage being transferred along the way.
Guided Mountain Bike HolidaysWilderness Scotland guided mountain bike holidays are open for individuals to join and keep small group sizes. They are ideally suited to riders who have developed their skills at purpose built centres and are now looking to take their experience a step forward and use their mountain bike to explore Scotland's wild places.
- Coast to Coast : 7 days, 375km and 7000m of ascent and descent! This incredible journey through Scotland's backcountry glens was pioneered by our guides, and travels from the coast at Aberdeen in the east, through to Ardnamurchan Point - the most westerly place on Scotland's mainland.
- Wild Highland Trail : Starting on Scotland’s west coast, we’ll follow trails through the iconic mountain regions of Glencoe, the Monadhliath and the Cairngorms. En route, we will stay overnight in one of the most special places in the Highlands – a remote mountain hut perched on an amazing loch, deep in the wilderness.
- Hebridean Trail : This adventurous trip takes you through 7 beautiful Hebridean islands to explore some of the best riding in the world. Starting on the Island of South Uist and following ancient paths and single track trails through the islands until the final point of call at the Butt of Lewis in the north.
- Bike Across Scotland : This is a great beginner and intermediate trip for developing your mountain biking skills. With the support of an experienced mountain biking guide, take on some of Scotland's most beautiful locations between Fort William to the Moray Firth. Following the Great Glen Fault, we will stay near the famous Loch Ness and visit amazing locations along the way such as Urquhart Castle and the charming village of Fort Augustus. In the evenings you can rest your tired legs in cozy inns in the company of the new friends you have made.
We can also run private mountain biking trips - contact us to discuss your ideas and let us design the perfect itinerary for you, regardless of what standard of mountain biker you are.
It's Not Just Mountain Biking at Wilderness Scotland! As well as mountain biking trips, Wilderness Scotland also offers guided and self guided walking holidays, sea-kayaking, sailing, open canoeing, road cycling, wildlife and photography holidays. We also offer a range of family multi-activity holidays and self-driving itineraries, as well as a bespoke holiday service. Please see our website for full details of our trips and services.
Our Green EthosWe are firmly committed to responsible tourism and all of our tours reflect that commitment. Our holidays are purposefully designed to provide a visitor experience that maximises the positive benefits of tourism while minimising any negative impacts. We are staunch advocates of the Leave No Trace principles, in which our guides are fully trained. On all of our activities, our guides will ensure that the impact on the environment, wildlife and local community is minimised. During your trip, our guides will teach you how to do this so that the knowledge is spread on your travels in Scotland and further afield. Our guides are ambassadors for Scotland's wild places and are passionate about sharing their knowledge.
It's not just on trips that we promote sustainable processes! We operate our holidays out of a carbon-neutral headquarters which is powered by renewable energy. We reduce, reuse and recycle, using environmentally friendly products from local suppliers where possible. In addition, our office car park hosts two public EV charging stations, and we subsidise staff usage. We encourage car-sharing and compete monthly for the most environmentally friendly commute! Lastly, we are committed to contributing annually to a nature-based charity that promotes conservation in Scotland. Check out our Sustainability Page for more info.
