Inspired by a passion for the outdoors, Fernweh UK is the work of maker Laura Sherriffs. Laura creates handcrafted waxed canvas and leather bags inspired by colour palette of the Scottish landscape.
Colour palettes reflect the rich landscapes, coasts and lochans of the Highlands and North East and Laura uses natural, traditional materials such as Scottish waxed canvas, and oak bark tanned leather, tying her work directly to the land it is inspired from. Laura uses this natural inspiration to create high quality, purpose driven bags that bring a little bit of adventure into everyday life.
Fernweh create rugged, unique designs that blend aesthetics with function, taking inspiration from traditional materials and giving them a modern sensibility.
An advocate for Scottish and UK textiles, Fernweh place emphasis on slow, considered textiles, with lots of heritage and history, and in creating quality, timeless pieces that transcend seasons.
Through Fernweh, Laura strives to create a brand and products that reflect sustainable values, creating designs that minimise waste, using offcuts where possible and making considered products that last.
Each step of every Fernweh piece is handcrafted with the highest attention to detail in Laura's studio in Aberdeen, part of Deemouth Artist Studios.
