The soaps.....from my island home of Stronsay I create traditionally made, cold-processed soaps, using natural, local ingredients where possible. My soaps are made to my own specific recipes. They help care for your skin, are long-lasting and I like to think each bar contains a bit of island magic. This year I’m making smaller batches of each type which is really exciting because it means even more different soaps throughout the year. Making new and unique designs and scents is one of the things I love about soap-making. My soaps are all passed by a certified chemist, as required by EU law and I am a member of the Guild of Craft Soap & Toiletry Makers.
The textiles....I also love spinning and work primarily with the rare breed seaweed-eating North Ronaldsay sheep fleeces, but also use different fleece and fibres available throughout Orkney. From the spinning comes yarn and from that hand-dyeing, weaving, felting, knitting. I make wall hangings, bags, scarves, rugs - some practical, some whimsical - using all or some of the techniques mentioned. Each piece is unique and created much like a work of art. I am a long-time member of the Online Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers.
