Based on the picturesque Isle of Islay, famed for its wildlife and whisky, The Blue Letterbox is a local arts and craft gift shop situated on Frederick Crescent in the pretty harbour village of Port Ellen.
The Blue Letterbox offers a selection of unique arts and craft made locally on Islay, Colonsay and Jura; as well as Scotland and further afield.
Our quality collection includes crafts using tweeds and tartans; hand knitting using locally sourced wool; traditional marine rope work and macramé; hand painted slates, pebbles and tiles; paintings and photography of local scenes and wildlife; jewellery made with sea glass, sterling silver and semi-precious gems; wood, glass and ceramic crafts; scented soaps, hand washes, lotions and candles with hints of local flora and whisky; books for children and books on Islay; local maps; walking guides; postcards; greetings cards and gift wrap.
From April to October, we stock what has been described as the "best ice cream on the island" - Isle of Arran Traditional Dairy Ice Cream. Along with the more traditional flavours, we sometimes have Cranachan, Scottish Tablet, MacKay's Dundee Marmalade, or Islay Malt Whisky ice creams! We also have sorbets and vegan ice cream.
The Blue Letterbox is also home to Port Ellen Post Office, offering the usual postal services, including a free cashpoint for withdrawals on UK cards and Bureau de Change. We buy and sell US Dollars and Euros and we process MoneyGrams for transferring money abroad or in the UK.
There is free Wi-Fi in the shop and we can do basic photocopying and printing.
Call in for a warm welcome and find a unique gift to take home!
