Sample Tour visiting Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and Cawdor Castle

Leaving Inverness we head for the most famous lake in the world here the guide will explain how the area was formed and the history of Loch Ness from the first recorded sighting of Nessie to the modern story of the creature and the various sightings in the lake. No visit of Loch Ness would be complete without the chance to visit Urquhart Castle the iconic symbol of Loch Ness.

Travelling through Inverness we arrive at Culloden Battlefield with its award winning visitor centre and field where in 1746 the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by the Hanoverian Army under the command of the Prince who would be forever known in history as "Butcher Cumberland". The aftermath of the battle would see brutality unknown in the Highlands. Culloden is an emotive place for Highlanders and visitors from all over the world who have a connection to it.

A short distance away is the Neolithic site of Clava Cairns made famous in the Outlander series of books. This 4-5000 year site is a stunning example of what our bronze age ancestors could achieve.

Cawdor Castle is our final destination, the home of the same family for 600 years and mentioned in the play Macbeth of William Shakespeare. This Castle still lived in by the present Countess of Cawdor and opened to the public during the summer, allows the visitor to see a "lived in" Castle.

This is an example and there are many places to visit as Inverness is well placed for touring, choose your places to visit.
