Old Town: This visit aims to present the medieval town – Old Town – The meeting point will be on Grassmarket, in the heart of the medieval city, located at the foot of the castle. We will then follow the ancient fortifications that have sprung the city for centuries, along these fortifications I will tell you about the living conditions in Edinburgh at the time when Old town was the entire city; We will then pass by the few modern changes that to known the city during the XVIII and XIXth centuries to finally venture onto the Royal Mile, the famous artery – now mainly tourist – connecting the castle and the palace.
New Town: This visit to the modern part of the city – New Town – makes it possible to understand the changes made to the city during the Georgian era. To understand the magnitude of the site undertaken we will leave from Calton Hill from where we will have a breathtaking view of the city and from where we will evoke the nickname of the city – the northern Athens – before going back down to St Andrews Square from where the work of extensions From the city began before remounting George Street to Charlotte Square and down to Stockbridge and Dean Village – old independent villages connected to the city during the extension – passing through some picturesque squares and streets and Planned.
Old Town : Cette visite à pour but de présenter la ville médiévale – Old Town – le point de rencontre se fera sur Grassmarket, en plein cœur de la ville médiévale, situé aux pieds du château. Nous longerons ensuite les anciennes fortifications qui ont cintrée la ville pendant des siècles, le long de ces fortifications je vous parlerai des conditions de vie à Édimbourg à l’époque où Old Town constituait la totalité de la ville ; nous passerons ensuite par les quelques modifications modernes qu’à connue la ville durant les XVIII et XIXème siècles pour enfin nous aventurer sur le Royal Mile, célèbre artère – aujourd’hui principalement touristique – reliant le château et le palais.
New Town : Cette visite dans la partie moderne de la ville – New Town – permet de comprendre les modifications apportées à la ville durant l’époque géorgienne. Pour comprendre l’ampleur du chantier entrepris nous partiront de Calton Hill d’où nous aurons une vue imprenable sur la ville et d’où nous évoquerons le surnom de la ville – l’Athènes du nord – avant de redescendre vers St Andrews Square d’où les travaux d’extensions de la ville ont débutés avant de remonter George Street jusqu’à Charlotte Square et descendre jusqu’à Stockbridge et Dean Village – anciens villages indépendants rattachés à la ville lors de l’extension – en passant par certaines places et rues pittoresques et planifiées.
