Elgin Walking Tour

Monks, Goats & the Wolf

Elgin, the former cathedral city, is home to some very fine buildings that have played their part in history. Elgin Cathedral, now a picturesque ruin, was once known as "The Lantern of the North" and was said to be Scotland's most beautiful cathedral. The bishops of Moray had a big influence on the area, some of their decisions had a rather unpleasant impact on the town though.

On this private walking tour, we take you onto a journey back into the time of monks and bishops when the Wolf of Badenoch paid the town his infamous "visit" and onwards through the centuries into the times of a drouthy cobbler and the industrialisation, when Johnstons of Elgin started their woollen mill on the banks of the River Lossie.
