In the mood for something a bit different this Autumn? How about travelling the Caledonian canal from Oban to Inverness and in association with our very own 4×4 minibus from sister company SKYEFARI so we can head up into the hills wildlife watching.

Dates: 19th to 24th October 2023

As well as experiencing the atmosphere of travelling through the lock system, we will visit native woodlands, encounter rutting deer, watch for eagles and otters, visit the island of Skye and end with an excursion to the Moray Firth and watch for bottle-nosed dolphins. We include your transfer in the SKYEFARI minibus back to Oban.

Destination:

Guests join the MV Hjalmar Bjørge at around 1500 in Oban. Our departure shortly thereafter will see us on anchor for our first evening meal aboard. Depending on prevailing weather conditions we will hope to anchor in the vicinity of Castle Stalker. We will enter the Caledonian Canal at Corpach the next morning. There are many options for shore stop destinations but will include Glenfinnan NTS monument; Glen Garry native woodland: the Isle of Skye; Loch Ness and the Moray coast.

Enjoy travelling the length of the canal whilst admiring the dramatic scenery of the Great Glen and its famous lock systems at Neptune's Staircase and Fort Augustus.

Highlights:

Viewing rutting deer – both eagle species and other raptors such as hen harriers plus otters– good opportunity to view bottle-nosed dolphins – coastal birds such as Eider Duck, Mergansers, Divers and the arrival of the geese skeins, – A chance to visit habitats such as the Caledonian pinewoods and open mountain scenery by 4×4 and on foot – Autumn weather to be enjoyed and celebrated. This whole experience is slow paced with great photo opportunities and meeting like minded travellers.
