In the mood for something a bit different this Autumn? How about travelling the Caledonian canal from Inverness southwards in association with our very own 4×4 minibus from sister company SKYEFARI so we can head up into the hills wildlife watching.

Dates: 26th to 31st October 2023

As well as experiencing the atmosphere of travelling through the lock system, we will visit native woodlands, encounter rutting deer, watch for eagles and otters, visit the Isle of Skye and have an excursion to the Moray Firth to watch for bottle-nosed dolphins. We include your transfer in the SKYEFARI minibus back to Inverness.

Guests join MV Hjalmar Bjørge at around 1500 in Inverness. If conditions are good, we may have time to take a shore excursion to search for the local bottlenose dolphins in the Moray Firth, the largest in the world before returning to the boat to enter the Caledonian Canal. There are many options for shore stop destinations but will include Glenfinnan NTS monument; Glen Garry native woodland: the Isle of Skye and Loch Ness.

Viewing rutting deer – both eagle species and other raptors such as hen harriers plus otters – good opportunity to view bottlenose dolphins – coastal birds such as Eider Duck, Mergansers, Divers and the arrival of the geese skeins. A chance to visit habitats such as the Caledonian pinewoods and open mountain scenery by 4×4 and on foot – Autumn weather to be enjoyed and celebrated. This whole experience is slow paced with great photo opportunities and meeting like minded travellers.
