Central Shetland Tour with Shetland Explorer Tours
This tour gives you a true Shetland experience - a mixture of renowned Shetland views and a glimpse into the fascinating history of the islands, not forgetting our native Shetland ponies.
This tour takes you through the central part of Shetland. You will leave Lerwick and travel north along the east coast of Shetland. You will pass through the village of Girlsta, then branch off the main road to the west coast and pass through Kergord and the Weisdale valley. This is a fertile limestone landscape with some of Shetland’s few trees.
You still stop at the Wormadale Viewpoint, where you can see much of the west coast and on a fine day a view of Foula, lying 20 miles to the west of Shetland. You will then stop to visit Carol’s Shetland Ponies at Tingwall, and receive a short talk about the animals.
On the 2 hour tour you will make your way back to Lerwick at this point, stopping on the way at the Scalloway viewpoint where you can take photos of Scalloway and its harbour.
On the 3 hour tour you will spend some time in Scalloway, where you can visit the castle and the Scalloway Museum, which details the history of the Shetland Bus. You will have free time here to explore the rich history of the area. You will then head back to Lerwick, stopping at the Scalloway viewpoint on the way.
