This tour winds along the Royal Mile in the Old Town which is the oldest part of the UNESCO world heritage area of Edinburgh. If you only have a short time in Edinburgh this tour will show you the unmissable sights that the city has to offer!
Tours are at 9.30am and 12.30am most days. Please check website for availability.
We start at Edinburgh Castle which sits high above the city centre on castle rock. This dramatic rock has sheer drops falling down to Princes Street Gardens.
Stretching downhill from the castle is the famous Royal Mile along which are some of the oldest buildings in Edinburgh. We walk along all the different sections of the Royal Mile.
The street has an incredible history which we will tell you all about. The buildings along it have been preserved or restored and have differing uses. Some contain thriving shops or restaurants while others remain as living quarters.
One building which you will see along the mile is the impressive St Giles High Kirk (Cathedral) which was founded in the 1120s.
The tour will end at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, which is the official residence of the Queen when she visits Edinburgh.
Welcome to Edinburgh! My name is Helen Alexander and I set up my company “Edinburgh Welcome Tours” because I've been invited to homes all around the world and so I want to welcome visitors from everywhere to my own home town. I love my city of Edinburgh and I like to show it from a local viewpoint. My favourite places are unusual ones that are off the beaten track. Amazingly they are often missed by many visitors here. My aim is to show you these parts of Edinburgh as well as showing you the incredible history, culture and sights we have to offer here.
Tours at 9.30am and 12.30pm most days.
