Situated along the Great Glen fault line, at 23 miles long and over 750ft deep, the journey along Loch Ness lets you take in outstanding views of this iconic stretch of water.URQUHART CASTLE
It is possible to spot the Castle on the headland some time before we reach it as we journey down the A82 towards Drumnadrochit. On arriving there is time to stop for a visit at the impressive ruins which played an important part in the Scottish wars of independence, various clan rivalries and also the Jacobite uprisings. Why not stroll amongst the aged walls and gaze out over the loch for any signs of disturbance in the water... After visiting we then head to the southern end of Loch Ness and the Caledonian Canal at Fort Agustus.FORT AUGUSTUS & THE WEST HIGHLANDS
Once in Fort Agustus it may be possible to venture onto the Loch in a RIB, if you wish. We then travel into Jacobite country – up through beautiful Glengarry and down Glen Shiel and into the Kintail mountains to Loch Duich and possibly the most photographed castle in all Scotland – Eilean Donan.
Next we head to the beautiful and quaint village of Plockton, the ‘Jewel of the Highlands’ in a stunning location on the edge of Loch Carron. The village has featured in many TV shows including Hamish Macbeth starring Robert Carlyle. From here we travel all round Loch Carron and on to Sheildaig, another quaint fishing village on Loch Torridon. The grandeur of the Torridon mountain range looms ahead us, where some of the oldest rocks on the planet reach up more than 3000ft into the sky.
THE JOURNEY HOME
Once we have passed through the Torridon Mountains we arrive at Kinlochewe, at the head of Loch Maree (a Loch rich in Druid and Viking History). We then start to head back towards the Highland capital of Inverness and your hotel/drop-off point, passing the Glen Ord distillery, Beauly Priory and travelling along the banks of the lovely Beauly Firth.
