East Lothian Golf Tour (copy)
Here is an idea for an East Lothian Golf Tour. East Lothian is known as "The Golf Coast" due to the magnificent links courses on offer. These include Muirfield, Gullane, Dunbar, Craigielaw and both the West Links at North Berwick and the Glen course
Dunbar
Dunbar Golf Club is located on the eastern end of Scotland's Golf Coast which also also boasts magnificent golf courses such as Murfield, Gullane, North Berwick and Craigielaw. Dunbar, established in 1856 is an Open Championship Final Qualifying Venue. Not overly long at 6,500 yards, it lies yards from the rocky shoreline and has well defined holes that follow the natural contours of the narrow strip of land that lies between the shoreline and Deer Park. Dunbar hosted the first European Tour PGA Championship, now held annually at Wentworth Golf Club.
Gullane
Gullane is located close to Muirfield with 3 golf courses that are simply named No 1, No 2 and No 3 with Number 1 being buit first. Golf has been played at Gullane for over 350 years and all the courses are blessed with superb turf and a climate that is favorable to all year round golf, Gullane No. 1 was laid out in 1884 and has hosted numerous prestigious national and international championships over the years.
Muirfield
Muirfield and Open Championship venue is one of the best golf courses in Scotland and reckoned to be the fairest of all the Open venues. It has hosted the Open on 16 occasions and is home to the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. It is also one of the most difficult golf courses in Scotland to obtain a tee tim as tee times for visitors are restricted to handicaps of 18 and in addition only a few tee times are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is advisable to book at least one year in advance.
North Berwick West Links
North Berwick Golf Club is one of the finest locations to play golf in East Lothian if not Scotland as many are of the opinion it is one of the best golf courses in Scotland. Located in North Berwick on the coast of East Lothian, it was formed away back in 1832. It is a club steeped in tradition and providing generous hospitality. Its Links winds its way along the Firth of Forth offering magnificent panoramic views over white sandy beaches, islands and the hills of the ancient Kingdom of Fife. It provides offers a testing challenge of golf to members and guests alike.
