Guided Fairy Lochs walk with visit to WW11 bomber crash site. Terrain: Some tracks, but mainly rough stalkers tracks and some boggy areas. Birchwoods and moorland. Time: 2 hours Distance: 6km / 3.75 miles Ascent: 230m
The route begins and ends near the Shieldaig Lodge Hotel and follows a well-worn path. There are great views back over Loch Gairloch to the surrounding Torridon mountain, dominated by Baosbheinn (‘The Wizard’s Mountain’). Discover the habitats of birchwood, moorland, beautiful small lochs with plenty of local wildlife to see.
An important destination of this walk is a memorial marking the site of a fatal air-crash from a WW2 Liberator crash bomber site . The site is left unspoilt and still has a propeller and various plane parts in situ.
In memory of the crew and passengers of a b24 h liberator bomber, which became lost while returning to the USA on June 13th 1945 and crashed at this place with the loss of all on board
Depending on ground conditions we can return by the same route or make this a circular walk. Experienced local guides. Your safety is our priority.
