Experience the Great Glen Way - one of the most popular long-distance hiking trails in Scotland. Along the way you will visit stunning places such as Loch Ness, the Caledonian Canal and Inverness.

The Great Glen Way is one of the most popular long distance walks in Scotland and along its 73 miles (117 km), from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east, there’s so much to discover and explore – breathtaking scenery, historic castles, natural heritage sites, abundant wildlife and of course, the world famous Loch Ness. This route is a perfect introduction to long distance walking and is suitable for all abilities.

The Great Glen Way follows – as the name suggests – the Great Glen, a natural glacial fault line that divides Scotland from coast to coast. Along the way you will walk along the shores of Loch Lochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness. Part of the route also follows the impressive Caledonian Canal which connects the North Sea with the Atlantic Ocean via a network of smaller canals and locks.

After arriving in Inverness, the vibrant capital of the Highlands, you can either choose to return to Edinburgh or extend your stay for a few days and further explore the north.
