sample itinerary SD#4

From Stirling we may drive along the stunning Sheriffmuir route or via historic and beautiful Dunblane

to Braco with its Roman camp at Ardoch. From here it is only a short spectacular drive up the country road before we can have a coffee stop at the Auchingarrich Wildlife centre

with great view all around.

You can either visit the exhibition at the Cultybraggan WWII POW camp

and the charming Highland Perthshire village of Comrie.

There are great walks all around Comrie including to the Deil’s cauldron & the Melville monument

The alternative route after Braco leads us to Muthill and the stunning Drummond castle & gardens

(featuring as Versailles in the Outlander series) and on to the old market town of Crieff

where you are only a short distance from the Famous Grouse Glenturret distillery

From there you can head out west through picturesque Comrie and stunning Highland scenery to the small village of St. Filans by the shores of the panoramic Loch Earn with scenic walks.

You may either go along the main or the southern back country route and then enter Highland Stirlingshire and the Loch Lomond & Trossachs nationalpark

Rob Roy MacGregor, the famous clan chief of the local Clan MacGregor lies buried in Balquhidder

from Balquhidder you can head to the beautiful Highland Loch Voil

and then along to the shores Loch Lubnaig

with more walking options – incl. the Falls of Leny

or take a break at the cosy log cabin cafe at the Loch Lubnaig Forestry commission cabines

From here you might wish to visit Hamish and Moira the Hairy Coos at Kilmahog or spend some time in Callander

Callander is the gateway to the Trossachs or go out exploring the Bracklinn falls.

On the way back we pass the Deanston distillery

which also runs guided tours.

Through Doune and past the historic Doune castle

which also featured as “Castle Leoch/home of the MacKenzie clan in the Outlander series” and was used as a historic backdrop to film Monty Python and others.

For your info for another trip of your own, just as an idea, if you wish to visit our great Blair Drummond safari park you would need a minimum of 2 – 3 hours for that, we could drop you off there) and from the safari park corner of the main road every hour you could take bus number 59 back to Stirling
