January — December

Take a walk through historic Whitehall village on Stronsay, while learning about the fishing industries of yesterday and today.

The Stronsay of today is a quiet island, with a population of approximately 350 people, and a pier that has five boats that fish year around. But, it wasn't always so. In the height of the Herring Fishing days, the population of the island would swell to over 4,000 during the fishing season, with enough boat to walk from pier to pier across their decks. There were multiple schools, an ice cream parlor and movie theater. The Historic Herring Tour introduces you to this Stronsay.

This tour runs approximately 1.5-2 hours. Advance booking requested. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
