For years, this tiny island off Papay's east coast has been a much sought after destination for visitors. Take a trip over to the Holm, with its wonderful archeaology and wildlife, and be marooned for a just a while. Bill Bryson's favourite island!!

Take a boat trip over to an even smaller island than Papay. Thanks to Papay Development Trust's new boat, 'The Dunter' the Holm's Neolithic South Cairn (with its impressive 67ft long subterranean passage with carved decorations and 14 chambers) can be enjoyed by visitors when the weather conditions are suitable. Wander around this magical Holm, which in the summer feels very much like an island owned by the birds that breed there. Be marooned on your very own desert island...

Papay Development Trust

Papay Development Trust promotes the economic and social development of Papa Westray. It develops tourism on the island, and has recently completed the conversion of the Kelp Store into an arts and heritage centre. It runs events, including arts activities, guided tours and wildlife holidays, undertakes training, provides housing and manages the Papay Boat Scheme. It employs the Papay ranger, the community development officer, a market gardener and the three skippers for the new tourist boat service to the Holm Of Papay. It is central to delivering the island's development plan.
