Experience the magical landscapes of northern Scotland on a self-drive holiday with Scotland Traveller, visiting stunning places such as Durness, Smoo Cave and Duncansby Head on your way.

Our most recent self-drive holiday, the North Coast 500, gives you the opportunity to experience some of Scotland’s most desolate and dramatic landscapes in the northernmost part of this beautiful country. Along Scotland’s equivalent of ‘Route 66’, you pass through the wild and remote region of Wester Ross, where you drive through the famous mountain pass, Bealach na Bà at 626 metres (2053 ft).

On your way north you can visit Ullapool, one of the prettiest towns in the Highlands, known for its white houses and excellent fish restaurants. Further north, deserted Sutherland awaits, with higher chances of meeting a deer than other travellers. Here you can explore the spectacular Smoo Cave, located on the outskirts of Durness.

The coastal tour continues towards John O’Groats and the stunning rock formations at Duncansby Head and from there southward back to Inverness and Edinburgh.
