A tour of the main Outlander film locations from the T.V. series
The Outlander Books by Diana Gabaldon are the basis for this tour of the film locations. While the first book in the series has its basis in the Inverness and Highlands the film locations are mostly in the south of Scotland in the Forth and Clyde valley. This tour is the companion to the Inverness based book tour.
This tour can be a stand alone from Edinburgh, or a tour finishing in Inverness or vice versa.
Edinburgh Tour
Leaving Edinburgh we travel to Hopeton Castle the setting for Lallybroch the Castle does not match the book description (but as we say in Scotland "never let the truth get in the way of a good story" ) it was the setting used in the Starz Production.
Blackness an imposing former Castle on the banks of the Forth was used as Fort William.
Culross the conservation village on the North of the Forth provided the setting for Cranesmuir this village has lots of places which were seen in the T.V. program including Geilles Duncan's house. Lunch here in the Red Lion.
After lunch the afternoon is spent visiting Dounne Castle used as Castle Leoch and in Falkland another conservation village in Fife and used for Inverness in the productions, from here its either on to Inverness for the book tours or return to Edinburgh.
For the tour running from Inverness locartions will be reversed, other sites can be substituted or added.
