‘Paddle Isle Ewe’

Isle Ewe is location within the natural harbour of Loch Ewe on the Wester Ross coastline. In the 16th century the Isle Of Ewe was said to be all wooded but nowadays the island is a working farm and home to Isle Ewe Smokehouse.

During the Second World War, Loch Ewe was used as an important naval anchorage.

Loch Ewe was a convoy collecting point for the Arctic convoys to Russia. Loch Ewe was protected by anti-aircraft guns. A boom net and mine defence system helped protect the vessels in Loch Ewe from German submarines (U boats) and air attacks. Evidence of some of these WW11 defences can still be seen today.

Leaving from Aultbea we intended to explore the coastline and circumnavigate the island, stopping off to explore a little by foot.

Dates – April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, August 14
