Isle of Skye

Scenic Skye

An unforgettable ride through ancient landscapes to mystical castles, natural wonders and much-loved corners of the Highlands and Islands

Urquhart Castle*, near Drumnadrochit by the shores of Loch Ness, presents history from Pictish times through to mysteries of the fabled Loch Ness Monster. The drive then cuts westward past Loch Cluanie below the stunning vistas of the Five Sisters of Kintail mountain range, then onward to the west coast and the quaint villages of Plockton and Glenelg.

Eilean Donan Castle*, in all its photogenic splendour, sits at the entrance to Loch Duich on a small islet and featured in the movie ‘Highlander’. Through Kyle of Lochalsh and across the Skye Bridge awaits the misty isle of mountains, midges and majestic lochs and cliffs.

Favourite destinations include pretty harbour town of Portree. Just north, the Trotternish Peninsula holds some of the most beautiful and strange scenery, not least the 50 metres high pinnacle of the Old Man of Storr, the remarkable Quiraing rock formation and the unforgettable Fairy Glen, with its natural landscape of miniature conical hills and deserted cottages.

Mealt Waterfall and Kilt Rock are within reach and near Dunvegan Castle sits the world-class Three Chimneys restaurant.
