April — April

A wonderful wildlife-focused Scottish Spring cruise and exploration of Scotland’s beautiful Inner Hebridean islands, visiting a varied selection which could include Mull, Skye and Jura for example. A great time of year for eagles in particular.

Dates: 14th to 20th April 2023

Guests join the MV Hjalmar Bjorge around 1530 on Friday 14th April in Oban. Our departure shortly thereafter will see us on anchor for our first evening meal aboard. The itinerary is dependent on conditions but may include for example, some of the following places;

  • Mull, a special place for wildlife and introduction location for the return of white-tailed eagles to Scotland.
  • Skye, with mountains, coastline, moorland and wildlife galore.
  • Jura and the Sound of Islay, rugged scenery and great eagle country.
  • Small Isles, Rum, Canna, Eigg and Muck, four islands with very different personalities and geography.

On the final day we head back into Oban for your departure after breakfast on Thursday 20th April.

Wildlife highlights:

Spring is a great time as life starts anew with our local flora and fauna. The two eagle species of white-tailed and golden will be busy preparing for breeding, as will the auk species around the coast, including everyones favourites – the puffins. Other raptors such as hen harriers, buzzards and merlin might be spotted on shore excursions – you just never know what might turn up!

Otters may be seen roaming the shorelines, seeking out new territories maybe, or preparing for the raising of this years cubs whilst searching for food and the perfect place for a nap. Common and grey seals are likely to be sighted also around the coastlines and you never know if a cetacean or two may show up with porpoise and common dolphin the most likely perhaps.
