Tracing the journey of the Saint Cuthbert from his life as a shepherd in the Borders, trained as a monk at Melrose before leaving to become the abbot on the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne. Anticipate a stirring walk along the clifftops at St Abb’s Head.

This is a journey that traces and tells something of the life of St Cuthbert. The day’s itinerary will be arranged around the tides to access Lindisfarne, but will include the following:

-       Look down upon the site of the original abbey of Melrose where Cuthbert started his early career, located in a bend of the Tweed river.

-     Visit the castle and abbey of historic Lindisfarne, taking the pilgrim’s route across the sands at low water and climbing to the hilltop fortification. Grading: Easy. Distance: 3kms. Height: 20m

Picnic Lunch - please bring your own.

-       The walk to St Abb’s Head follows the line of the cliff tops. Walk grading: Moderately strenuous alongside some steep sea cliffs. Distance: 6.25kms. Height: 110m

-     Time permitting, a visit to Cuthbert's cave up on a high escarpment.
