A lovely guided walk between Aberfeldy and Pitlochry along the Rob Roy Way. We visit Grandtully and Clachan an Diridh (the “stones of the ascent”) along the way, and follow some historic paths.
After catching a taxi or bus to Aberfeldy, we follow the Rob Roy Way alongside the River Tay to Grandtully. Depending on the situation at the time we may be able to stop here for refreshments – there are three wonderful places to have a drink and some food. We then cross the River Tay to the lovely little hamlet of Strathtay. From there, we follow an old route up the hill to Clachan an Diridh (the “stones of the ascent”). After spending some time at this atmospheric place, we walk down through the woods towards Pitlochry. There are some great views as we descend. We finish by crossing the famous “bouncy bridge” and wander in to the bustling Highland Perthshire town of Pitlochry.
Although the walk starts in Aberfeldy, we will meet up in Pitlochry (at the bus stop by the Bank of Scotland, opposite the Fishers Hotel) at 0915 and catch the 0935 bus to Ballinluig and Aberfeldy. The walk is 14km long with a total ascent of 380m and will take about 6 hours, including stops. We will finish the walk back in Pitlochry by 1600.
The walk follows mainly good paths and tracks, but with some wetter ground in places.
You will need to bring with you a pair of good walking boots, waterproofs, a small rucksack, some warm spare clothing, walking poles may also be useful, hand sanitiser, a face mask and something to eat and drink. You can find information about booking arrangements and a full list of what to bring on the website page for the tour. People under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian. Sorry, but no dogs.
The cost is £45 per person and this includes the cost of local transport from Pitlochry to Aberfeldy at the start of the walk.
