What to bring?

ItineraryFrom Stirling we journey west along Loch Lomond, through prehistoric Kilmartin glen with standing stone cricles along the Kintyre penninsula with superb coastal views of the Isle of Arran and some of the Inner Hebrides on the Atlantic side of the peninsula and some views across to Northern Ireland. At the south near Campbelltown we reach the long beach with the Machrihanish sand-dunes.We spend the night in beautiful Oban.

Depending on the group’s preferences and the weather, we might swap the route of day 1 and day 2 around and do the journey in reverse.

Day 1

  • We head out west through the Loch Lomond and Trossachs nationalpark and a scenic route to Oban, a beautiful and bustling ferry port and the main gateway to many of the Hebridean islands.
  • On arrival, there is a lot to do and see, we go up to McCaig’s folly/Colloseum for the best view of the stunning colourful harbour or go walking on the isle of Kerrara. If you wish you could also take the stunning 45 minutes crossing from beautiful Oban to the Isle of Mull with all round views of islands, the Lismore lighthouse, Duart castle, mountains and the sea.

There is the Oban whisky distillery and you might wish to go to a Ceilidh at the Skippinish or just go out for fish & chips.

Day 2

  • We are leaving Oban and exploe more of the Argyll and Kintyre coastline, we are having a chance to cross “the bridge over the Atlantic” to Seil, Luiing and Easdale, take some stunning photos at Craobh Haven and Ardfern before heading into the prehistoric Kilmartin glen with ancient standing stone circles, burial mounds and Pictish slabstones– we drive along part of the Crinan canal – have the option to explore wild and beautiful places in Knapdale, the stunning Kilbery route, visit beautiful Tarbert/Loch Fyne cross the mountains for a view of the Isle of Arran and a possible walk around Skipness castle and heading south along the Kintyre peninsula via the stunning Machrihanish sand dunes and the surfbeach towards Campbeltown,
  • We have a chance to walk over to the tidal Davaar tidal island and heading towards the Mull of Kintyre with views over to Northern Ireland from Southend.

Accommodation

Accommodation at the hostel in the heart of Oban for apprx. £14 pp for one night is one of the option, which we recommend.

£14 per person for the one night for the SYHA hostel in central Oban, the most important & a vibrant & picturesque ferry port on the Westcoast.

however if you prefer, you are free to stay elsewhere for the 1 night, incl. a B&B or hotel, it will make no difference to the tour, as we drop you off at night and pick you up again in the morning

We always give you the option to opt-out and find your own private B&B or hotel accommodation nearby, in which case you should advise us early, so we can release those pre-booked bed-spaces.

The tour throughout the day will remain the same, no matter if we pick you up in the morning /drop you off at night at a 5* hotel or hostel, this allows you to pay as little or as much for your accommodation as you like.

Check for additional accommodation info.
