Come deep into Edinburgh's colourful history as you walk the Royal Mile with a local guide, hearing the songs, music, poetry and eyewitness history of the Old Town. Hear Old Scots and Gaelic, accompanied by mandolin and with translation provided.

A great new tour for groups of up to 15 guests! Come with local family physician and folk singer Dr Moray Grigor, on a musical and poetic journey into the Old Town’s colourful past. Starting at our meeting point at the top of the Royal Mile we’ll make our way down this most historic of Edinburgh's streets, hearing the songs, poems and gossip of Old Edinburgh as we go! The walking tour will end at Canongate Church, from which you can carry on your Old Town wanders toward Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament, or return up the Royal Mile on foot or by bus.

As we tour, you’ll be hearing the traditions, stories and songs of the Royal Mile and its characters; the famous, the tragic and the quirky. Moray will take you well beyond the history books! You'll hear about:

Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Rebellion

Life in the closes of the Royal Mile

David Hume, Adam Smith and the Scottish Enlightenment

Allan Ramsay, our pioneering arts impresario

Saturday afternoon massed gang fights - 'bickers'

‘Bonnie Dundee’s escape from Edinburgh

Water – and lack thereof!

The Reformation and religious militias

Jacobites and Whigs – and their controversial pets!

Music, theatre and dance – or, at times, not!

Edinburgh’s particularly peculiar Judges

The Countess of Eglinton, Edinburgh’s most celebrated beauty

Roaring nights in eccentric clubs

Robert Burns and Walter Scott

Famous Gaelic connections of the Royal Mile

Battling bishops

Edinburgh greatest Grand Dame

Jailbreaks, improbable and less so!

Patrick Geddes and the saving of the Old Town

The Marquess of Montrose

And many other topics besides!
