Approaching the Holy Loch

Holy Loch

The American Connection

A boat trip with a difference - tracing the links between the Clyde Estuary and America. Boat, skipper and crew available to book for this private 3 hour trip - £400. Boat can take 12 people, with seating indoor and out.

This trip starts at Rosneath, which was a US Naval base and home for 6000 troops from 1942-45. Construction of this base started in 1941, before the USA even entered the war. Behind Rosneath base was a 200 bed US Naval Hospital.

Then we voyage across to the Holy Loch, which was a US Navy ballistic missile base from 1961-1992 during the Cold War.

We return via Greenock, which at its peak had 14 sugar refineries operating, and 400 ships arriving annually from the Caribbean and Brazil, and then finally we get up close and personal with the wreck of the Sugar Boat, an iconic local feature, which even has a local restaurant named after it.
