The Great Lochs Tour

Day 1 Pm arrival

Evening Overnight stay in Kinross for welcoming Dinner and Familiarisation of what tour entails and times for departing on Day 2.

Day 2

After your overnight stay in Kinross and our opening night get to know you complimentary meal, we are finally on route to what we know will be an exciting and awe inspiring tour of the many Lochs.

We will head off towards Crieff via the famous Gleneagles golf course, Crieff is a traditional market town which is surrounded with Perthshire’s stunning scenery. Turning off the main drag we will head through the Sma Glen which is home to the Sadlin Mare Lifting Stone, onwards then towards Dunkeld, Blairgowrie and Bridge of Cally.

Heading North now on one of General Wades Military roads, we sample some fabulous scenery on route through the Spittle of Glenshee, where there will be ample opportunities for a photo or two of the Glen and its hypnotic charm. Heading further North to Braemar and a slight detour on to the Linn O Dee where you can find one of the finest examples of a highland landscape, which was a favourite beauty spot of Queen Victoria. Heading back into Braemar village, we will stop for a lunch break.

After lunch we will head through the Cairngorms National Park past Balmoral Castle (Scottish residence of the Royals) along the banks of the river Dee. On now to one of highest paved roads in the UK stopping at the Corgaff Viewpoint for another chance to snap some photos, then pass the Lecht Ski resort towards Loch Garten and over the river Spey into Boat of Garten, which is home to the Strathspey steam railway and our returning ospreys. Leading us to our first nights stay.

Day 3

After a good nights rest and a chance to catch up on all the previous days ride you will be treated to a hearty breakfast, then heading out on a short run up to Carrbridge and on to the the A9 (Unfortunately the only route but only for 15 minutes) down to the lesser known General Wades Old Military road on the south side of Loch Ness where we can stop for some photo opportunities across the Loch.

You can catch a view of Urquhart castle on the opposing bank weather permitting. The castle has a long deep and dark relationship in Scottish history throughout the centuries.

Continuing down the south side of the Loch keeping your eyes peeled for a glimpse of our illusive Nessie. We will arrive in Fort Augustus at the Southwest end of Loch Ness right on the Great Glen Fault that cuts across the Highlands. The village is cut in half with the Caledonian Canal where there are a series of Locks that link the East and West Coasts of Scotland. We will stop here for a short lunch break for you to explore the village and its amazing Lock system and views down the Loch.

From here we will set off up the west side of Loch Ness to Invermoriston past the Roderick MacKenzie Memorial to Loch Loyne and follow the shores of Loch Garry to Invergarry. From here we set off down the Great Glen towards Fort William with Loch Oich on your left then change over one of the Caledonian Canal swing bridges onwards down the Glen with Loch Lochy now on the right, taking in the beautiful scenery as we go. There will be further opportunities for photos should you wish at the view points along the loch.

Heading South we now have the opportunity to stop at the Spean Bridge Memorial which commemorates the Elite Commando Soldiers and Officers that fell during World War 2 where there is also a view point for the North face of Ben Nevis (Weather permitting). We will head onwards through the village which is promoted as the crossroads of the highlands and is well located for travellers visiting Scotland.

We will continue down the Great Glen to Corpach where weather permitting we will get uninterrupted views of Ben Nevis and all its glory.....we will continue south with views of loch Eil to the west and Loch Linnhe to the south. As we head down the Loch we pass the Corran Ferry which is a lifeline for the local communities and cuts an average of 1 hr of their commute.

Taking in the forever changing scenery on the loch we find ourselves heading down towards the Loch Leven circular which is popular with bikers with some stunning views from the shoreline on the north side and aerial views from the South side.

We will head back on the main route through Glencoe where you will be in awe of this mystical Glen where we will make a few more stops so you can take in this magical place.

We will now head to our next nights stay under the shadows of Glen Etive in Glencoe

Day 4

After another lovely Breakfast we can venture back into the Glencoe Mountains and take advantage of seeing anything that was missed on the previous day for example Glen Etive, The 3 Sisters and hopefully the Piper will be playing in one of the parking areas for the tourists. The views down the Glen are absolutely stunning!

We then head towards Tyndrum which was built over the battlefield where Clan MacDougall had a wee stramash with Robert the Bruce - that born the legend of the Lochan Sword way back and is also a well known biker stop for all the weekenders to show off their machines where we can stop for some light refreshments as well as an ideal fuel stop if required.

From here we head down past Crianlarich (translates The Low Pass) which was boosted with two railways in the late 19th century, onwards to the Falls of Falloch, we will pause for a view of the falls. These falls drop 9 metres into a deeper pool at the bottom which was once referred to as Rob Roy’s bathtub and runs into the mouth of Loch Lomond.

Heading further South following Loch Lomond where again there are multiple areas to stop for pictures of this amazing Loch, we will then head to our next evenings stay on the Loch.

Day 5

After a hearty breakfast we will continue down Loch Lomond taking in again numerous photographic spots before heading north eastwards to Aberfoyle then into the Trossachs National Park, Meandering now on roads where the scenery has really opened up continuing over the Dukes Pass around Loch Achray through Brig o Turk and along the banks of Loch Venachar where the scenery changes again into lower rolling hills. This area again has numerous stunning photographic opportunities.

As the mountainous regions of the North fade behind us. North slightly again we stop for a view of the Falls of Leny which can be spectacular after heavy rain, then a few miles further North for a refreshment break on the south shores of Loch Lubnaig and view this tranquill Loch.

We now run up the side of Loch Lubnaig and divert on to a single-track road to the grave of the infamous Rob Roy MacGregor, then back on the main road again we make our way on now to Lochearnhead to enjoy the spectacular road that boasts loch views all the way through to St Fillans.

After a refreshment stop if required we will then travel on to Comrie where we will follow the Braco road which takes in Artillery firing ranges and is a twisty road loved by many avid Bikers taking us back over to Gleneagles, down through Glendevon then heading back to Kinross where we will enjoy a closing tour evening meal and hopefully hear how much you have enjoyed your tour as well as listen to any feedback which we openly welcome to discuss the tour.

Day 6

In the morning after a peaceful night’s sleep, you will have a lovely, relaxed breakfast after which we will say our goodbyes where you will have time then to relax before checkout.

We wish you all the best and a safe onward journey.
