Fans of the acclaimed TV show, SHETLAND and traditional music lovers, won't want to miss this trip! Join us for a unique Scottish experience. In this era of globalization, these islands remain one of the few places in the world which retain a true sense of otherness. For centuries these archipelagoes were Norse Colonies, but there were people here long before the Vikings. Join us as we journey to and around the Shetland and Orkney Islands and revel in the history, the scenery, the people, the music of the Shetland Folk Festival, the food and the traditions. Let us guide you on this once in a lifetime trip and take all the planning out of your hands. Come along for the ride and enjoy an incredible adventure where we will take on the ancient and Viking culture of Shetland and Orkney with a friend or loved one! This tour is sure to offer you a great mix of important highlights, exciting off the beaten path experiences, and attend one of the most amazing folk festivals anywhere.
Day 1: Pick up group at a designated spot at the Edinburgh Airport on April 30, 2025 at 11:00am and commute to Lerwick, Shetland via Aberdeen/
Days 2-5: While on Shetland, we will have time to day trip to the many historical and cultural sites (from standing stones to old crofts and craft making to ancient village sites older than the pyramids of Egypt) and in the evenings everyone will be able to take in the different concerts being held at different venues around the village. The Shetland Folk Festival is as much a community experience as it is an international treat.
Day 6-9: We sail from Lerwick to Kirkwall in Orkney. While in Orkney, we will again have lots of time to explore the landscape, visit ancient sites, meet and visit with local people. Some of the site visits include the Italian Chapel and other WWII significant sites, Standing Stones of Stenness, Skara Brae, a distillery, and more. We hope to treat everyone to a traditional storyteller who really captures the essence of old-world story telling with stories she learned from the elders.
Day 10: We will head back to the mainland on the Ferry and stay the night in South Queensferry which has great views along the River Forth. It is a great spot to 'collect and reflect' before we fly home.
Day 11: All good things must come to an end when we will drop the group off at the Edinburgh Airport on May 11, 2025 at 9:00am.
