Welcome to Walk'n Cowal. We offer worry free access and directions to some of Scotland's beautiful coastal and forest walks just over an hour from the centre of Glasgow. Please contact us for further information
Welcome to Cowal, a spectacular corner of Scotland adjacent to the Central belt but offering a diversity of landscape, seascape, geology and trails equal to many of our more remote wilderness areas.
Bounded by the Arrocher mountains in the north, the fjord like Loch Long to the east, the sparkling Loch Fyne to the West and the busy Firth of Clyde to the South, the Cowal peninsula also straddles the Island of Bute (separated by the famous Kyles of Bute), has gushing streams and rivers, and inland lochs, the jewel of which is the dark and often moody Loch Eck. The vast Argyll forest covers large parts of Cowal offering roads, tracks and trails for all to experience the joys of the great Scottish outdoors less than 30 miles from Glasgow City centre. Travel by train, bus or car to Gourock and ferry to Dunoon and Walk’n Cowal will look after the rest. Dunoon is also accessed by car either via Inverary from the West and North West or Loch Lomond, Arrocher and the Rest and be Thankful from the North, Central, East and South of Scotland.
I have lived in Cowal for over 10 years, Tighnabruach then Dunoon, and having retired from academia in 2013 have spent every opportunity to explore the hills, forest, rivers and shore around Dunoon, Ardyne and Loch Eck accompanied by family, friends and our dogs. I am now pleased to invite all to join me on scheduled walks (below) or on routes specifically planned with regard to age and/ or physical condition. Most walks (or transport to and from walks) will commence from the Argyll ferry pier in the centre of Dunoon, thus eliminating the cost of transporting your car if travelling via Gourock.
Walks start in April 2014 and exact dates will be entered to the Scheduled walks early March 2014. However, please contact us if there are dates which suit your requirements.
I look forward to walking with you.
